Arnold Sports Festival, March 1-4, 2013

Arnold Sports FestivalWe flew to Columbus, Ohio to sponsor for the 7th year the Arnold Sports Festival now in its 25th year. The theme that weekend is “Fitness is Fun.” It snowed every day so it was pretty cold. The Arnold Sports Festival has grown to over 20,000 competitors from 80 nations competing in 45 different multi-sport events including 12 Olympic sports. Many of the competitions as well as the Fitness EXPO take place in the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The co-organizers are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jim Lorimer (original creator of Gold’s Gym). The second annual Arnold Classic Europe was held in October 2012 in Madrid, Spain. Arnold Classic Brasil will debut in April 2013 in Rio de Janeiro. It is the ninth year to have dancesport and this event is organized by Sam Sodano (creator of Ohio Star Ball). It features 1,200 juvenile, junior, youth, and collegiate dancer competitors and takes place in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom adjacent to the convention center. We attended the VIP luncheon where scholarships were awarded and congratulatory speeches were given by organizers Arnold Schwartzenegger and Jim Lorimer, Mayor Michael B. Coleman, Governor John Kasich and one of the Senators that represents Ohio. Everyone attending had the opportunity to get their photos taken with Arnold. We had a terrific time and it was exciting to see and be part of this event. Sandor “Alex” and I took action photos and videotaped the dance competitions for Fordney Foundation. Some of these images will appear on this website so be sure to check weekly to view them. This annual dance competition is a not to be missed event.
