We want to personally thank Maria Durant, the owner of Dance 4 Wellness for inviting the Fordney Foundation as guests to an extraordinary evening event of dinner, live music, dancing and student performances. Ms. Durant is a very accomplished dancer and we were treated to incredibly exciting performances by her, her incredible instructors and her students hosted at The Spanish Hills Country Club on June 6, 2013.
As the evening unfolded, it became clear that the students were people that really cherished this dance experience. Many of them never dreamed of being a dancer and yet here they were gliding effortlessly across the floor with their instructors doing Rumba, Bolero, Tango, International Rumba, Waltz, Argentine Tango, International Samba and Lindy Hop. Each one of these people had a story to tell that made their reason for dancing an uplifting, spiritual journey that was heartwarming and wonderful to hear about and watch. It goes back to Ms. Durant again, who is not only a powerful role model but a compassionate friend to them all.
Besides the memorable dance performances, I was deeply moved by the “giving back” that Dance 4 Wellness continually is part of. There are many students associated with Dance 4 Wellness that are in remission from devastating illnesses. They attribute dancing as a large part of their cure. Also, one of the Dance 4 Wellness instructors personally teaches Argentine Tango to people with Parkinson’s disease. I met Marsha Baily, the CEO/Founder of Wev, Women’s Economic Ventures, an organization dedicated to creating an equitable and just society through the economic empowerment of women. There were a lot of remarkable people in this room and it was inspiring.
We too, at Fordney Foundation, believe in “giving back” and we were very proud to partner with Dance 4 Wellness these last two and a half years on the “Dancing With Our Local Schools” project. The schools have been receptive and the students truly enjoy their dance experiences. It continually proves to be a tremendous success. This program as well as our organization is designed to enrich and give creative dimension to young people through dance. It was our pleasure to congratulate and present Dance 4 Wellness Dance Studio a plaque to commemorate this milestone of achievement at their anniversary celebration. We look forward to many more years of partnership and success with Dance 4 Wellness on this program.
As a special treat, Geramy Lashchev and Isabella Kats gave us a “Latin Dance Show” of Cha-Cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive. They were absolutely terrific! We thank them for coming out on a school night to perform for all of us.
