Highlights of the Arnold Youth Dancesport Classic – 2016

I would like to relate to you how exciting it was this year for us to perform at the Arnold Youth Dancesport Classic in Columbus, Ohio. And, as promised, there is exciting news of an incentive program that just might interest all of our young dancer friends that compete in competitions. The Arnold (as we call it) is the one you might want to enter next year. Keep reading and the “break out” news will reveal itself shortly.

Our founder Marilyn Fordney and her husband, co-founder Alex Havasi, attended this exciting event and I’d like to highlight the event as told by Marilyn Fordney herself and also give you some background on the events (on the whole) we are involved in. Marilyn Fordney was there, of course, to give out ribbons to the winners of that competition who compete in the Junior and Youth Dance Series. The dance series runs for 12 months and involves more than 25 dance competitions across the United States.

Now, as promised, here is the most incredible, “break out” news and best part about being in this competition. Last year’s winners of the Latin and the Standard comps were invited to perform at the Arnold Sports Festival this year – as a special treat with all expenses paid! And as an ongoing spectacular gesture, the first place winners from the Fordney Foundation Junior and Youth Dance Series will be invited back every year to perform for Arnold at the Sports Festival. Now what competition can offer you that? That’s a big incentive to be part of this competition every year and to win!! I might add, this couple won $8,000 from our series last November.

Our entire sponsorship for this dance series is $25,000 and is spread out to go to the 10 top Latin, the 10 top Standard and to 2 dance teams with five or six couples in each team. Many of the dancers and winners that compete at The Arnold are college students. At this competition, there were about 450 to 500 university students competing this year. They were wearing more sophisticated dance clothes and dancing at a much higher level than we’ve ever seen since we’ve been coming to this event. At the conclusion of the college dance competitions, the University of Michigan received the first place trophy and Ohio State University was awarded the second place trophy.

The Fordney Foundation used to sponsor the Arnold before this dance series was formed. We are thankful to our organizer, Sam Sodano for allowing our dance series to now be associated with this exciting event. Through Sam’s help and efforts, we are seeing our Junior and Youth groups grow. We are now in the third year of our dance series. As you can imagine, it is very exciting to see and experience what happens during these competitions. I will be back with more incredible stories that took place at this event soon! Please enjoy these photos taken at the event.
