Let Music Be Your Guide
I admire those of you who can easily get up there and dance just by hearing a song that moves you. That is freedom at its best. Music is very powerful and can transcend our senses as well as our bodies.
If you would like to engage in a new activity that is loaded with fun, creativity, and can take you away from every day stress and life’s problems, then this type of workout is for you! You can also dance if you are bored with your regular work out routine or want to change things up. For those of you who are a little self-conscious, no need to be. Do you think that all those famous people who go on Dancing With The Stars can dance? “Heck no, that’s why it is so much fun to watch.” You learn as you go!
Let me inspire you to find any number of ways and places to find dance. There are gymnasiums, private lessons, public lessons, clubs, assisted living communities and even your own home. And the number one thing is to let music be your guide. You can dance by yourself or with others. It makes no difference. Just find music that speaks to you and get out there and move. You are never too young, too old, too short, or too tall to move your body. Please enjoy this video of the hit song ‘Havana’ and after you hear/see it, tell me it doesn’t make you feel like dancing! If you check out the movements these kids are doing, it is very basic and simple.
Let’s face it, as we grow older, it becomes harder to be as flexible as we once were. And age-related diseases can set in easier if we neglect to use our minds, bodies and brains to be positive and look for new ways to improve the quality of our lives. Here’s a hint, dancing keeps you young. When you dance, you get to learn rhythm, steps, be more social, activate our brains and improve body image. It’s like letting the sun in. And did you ever notice that the corners of your mouth will automatically perk up, it’s called smiling. Another great benefit of music and dance.
At your next party, break out your CDs, start moving and you’ll have the crowd dancing in no time. Sometimes, I go to song circles with my friends. At these parties, we sing. It’s all about the music and nothing gets rid of a bad mood or eases stress easier then a song we love to sing! Dance, music, and singing make us feel good and releases happiness endorphins. It is contagious. These things improve our emotional and social health.
