Preparing For A Prom

On November 14, 2014, Maria Durant owner of Dance 4 Wellness and Marilyn Fordney of the Fordney Foundation made a visit to St. Augustine Academy located in the foothills of Ventura County in the city of Ventura. We are very excited to announce, St. Augustine is the first high school to join our Dancing With Our Local Schools program. The school is almost a secret as one would never know about its existence unless you happen to drive down Wells Road. Headmaster, Michael Van Hecke and his assistant, the school secretary, Nancy Louis, greeted us with many positive remarks about our program.

This is a relatively small campus and the student population has almost outgrown the high school grounds. Classes are kept to 15 per class. The have their ballroom dance sport classes on an outdoor gym area that has a concrete floor. As we arrived we could hear the music and see the students dancing wearing uniforms and using rubber soled shoes. Large portable speakers had been set up so the music was easy to hear and to keep the beat to. We watched the 9th and 10th grades and also the 11th and 12th grades, a total of almost 60 students.

The dance instructor from Dance 4 Wellness is Todd Hansen and he is also an actor. His favorite dance to teach is the waltz. He has done dance team competitions and performed in Blackpool, England. Students were dancing waltz, tango, foxtrot, and swing and were quite proficient in their steps and arm movements. Maria and Marilyn gave short speeches to the students. While watching you could see how much the students have gained in dance skill and the fun and enjoyment they are experiencing.

We extend best wishes to all the students and look forward to their showcase performance on December 12 at 5 PM at La Reina High School in Thousand Oaks, California.

Thank you Maria Durant and Todd Hansen of the Dance 4 Wellness dance studio in Westlake Village, California for helping these students gain more dance proficiency, enhanced spirits, and improved sophistication in socializing. A “special” thank you to Headmaster, Michael Van Hecke for providing photos of the students of his school.

We hope you are enjoying seeing what our local schools have been up to! And, to cheer your favorite local school on, we cordially invite you to attend our Dancing With Our Local Schools – Winter Showcase for 2014, as per attached.
