The Best of the Best

There’s been a lot of talk and postings lately on “The Best of the Best” and now I want to take the time and tell you exactly what “The Best of the Best” means in relation to you as a dancer. It still is a work in progress for us and we promise to keep you posted on new highlights as we get them.

Never before was “The Best of the Best” offered to young dancers. This is a first. Usually, pro-am dance competitions have “The Best of the

Best” and they are usually adult dancers and not children or teenagers. Sam Sodano and Bill Sparks of Ohio Star Ball fame are the originators of “The Best of the Best” competition. The first time the Fordney Foundation was represented in this exciting event was at the Kings Ball in December 2016. This year at the Ohio Star Ball will be the first year Fordney Foundation will feature “The Best of the Best” Dancesport Challenge finale. Please make sure to go to our website for the rules and criteria about this event (see below). This will be “the” event that produces the ultimate winner of “The Best of the Best”

Here’s how “Best of the Best” works. If you go to a competition and get to be a top couple placing 1st through 6th places, you may be invited to perform a showcase dance usually held in the evenings after dinner when other showcase dances are scheduled. So, it will be winners going against winners. That is what we call “The Best of the Best.” You will be in good company because this is when the professional dance competitions are held. If you are lucky enough

to be asked to perform, I’m sure you will be delighted to know, you are being exposed to a very high level of competition, complete with an enthusiastic audience to cheer you on.

Currently all our represented events are hosts to “The Best of the Best” Fordney challenge. Categories represented are PT1, PT2, JR1, JR2 and YA. It looks like a new category has been added: Elementary School to one of the comps we recently read about, so “yay,” it keeps on getting

better. Because the “Best of the Best” is such a new comp opportunity, each competition in the future may have its own type of award that they give to the winning young couple. It could be a trophy, plaque or voucher.

We promise to update you as new details and prizes become available!   All of the qualifications are on this website. Go to Youth Series and click Best of the Best Dancesport Challenge. As you can see, having the “Best Of The Best” element in your competition experience makes the event more exciting and challenging.

Happy dancing,
