The Ladies of Ballroom

We have exciting news on the horizon to share with you! The Fordney Foundation is proud to announce that a new project is developing that involves the love of dancesport and we will share more details with you as developments unfold.

This project involves both music and dance and is titled The Ladies of Ballroom. It will become a CD series creating original arrangements of popular songs for American Rhythm and American Smooth. We hope it will become “Post-Modern” Ballroom at its best. A percentage of the proceeds of sales will be donated to Fordney Foundation and used to help young dancers throughout the United States.

How we got to be part of this artistic venture was when Marilyn Fordney, our founder, was contacted by Brent Thomas Mills. Now here is where it starts to get really good. Both Marilyn Fordney and Brent Thomas Mills often frequent dance competitions. We are fortunate that Brent Thomas Mills read our brochure and, liking what he read, decided that our non-profit organization would work beautifully with his endeavors and contacted Marilyn Fordney. We quickly caught Brent’s enthusiasm and are right there with him.

So, you are probably asking, who is Brent Thomas Mills? I’m so glad you asked, as he is a full of life, former, two-time U.S. Amateur Cabaret Champion and National professional finalist in ballroom dance. A trained musician with a degree from the Berklee College of Music, Brent plays drums, piano and keyboards. He is also a composer, arranger and producer, and has arranged music for numerous ballroom dance events and professional couples. He works almost weekly at ballroom dance competitions throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. His compositions have been heard at ballroom competitions and are frequently used in both television and movies. In other words, he is well known on the dance circuit and in the music business.

Brent Thomas Mills is the musical director for over 80 dancesport events a year. His company, Music-4-Movement Records, LLC, produces music for visual arts, including the television show So You Think You Can Dance. His website: is the foremost source of music sourcing for ballroom dancers. The playlists, published monthly, are quite extraordinary and very comprehensive, so check it out. In fact, if you want to listen to or purchase his music, just search for his complete name at iTunes.

Here’s what Brent Thomas Mills says about The Ladies of Ballroom project: “This project is at the top of my list. I’m so excited to produce tracks for the American style of dancing, which, nobody is producing music for! We want to be known as the “Post Modern Jukebox” for the ballroom world!”

In the next couple of weeks you will be hearing more about The Ladies of Ballroom project. There is a whole lot more about this project and we will be letting you know how you can help us develop these exciting CDs and be part of this first-time-ever, dancesport musical compilation extravaganza, like no other you’ve ever known! Stay tuned.
