What’s In Your DanceSport Bag

Shoes, stockings/socks, eye liner, lipstick, gel pads, hair bands, water bottles, pins, hairspray, , brushes, barrettes, a towel, wipes, band-aids, tape, protein bars, pens, notebooks and food snacks are all expected to be in a dancer’s bags. All these “things” are necessary, helpful and useful for our dance class/workout schedules. These are items you probably have in your dance bags right now.

Looking at the bigger picture and maybe not as obvious, but just as important, (and doesn’t take up much room in our bags) is our attitude, our inspiration, our spirit, our

smile, our energy, our quest for knowledge, our ability to get along with others, our friendships, our feeling of gratitude and how our bodies are feeling and dealing with learning, discomfort and even pain at times (pulling muscles, feet hurting, etc.).

You actually carry all these “things” around with you all the time and they define you. As dancers you have a responsibility to your craft to be the best you can be. By understanding concepts that motivate our initiative and purpose, we are becoming professional.

It is so obvious why very few dancers become professional and/or get to perform in competitions. It takes a lot of hard work and discipline in ourselves to get noticed by others to rise to the top. Not everybody can do it. You can see why it is so important to prepare and be detail oriented constantly in order to succeed. You must have a certain “mind set” and determination.

“Love what you do and it may just love you back” is an expression you may have heard before. In your case dancers, it could all very well start with what you carry in your DanceSports bag?!?
