This special invitational event hosted by Brent Thomas Mills and MusicMills
Records was held on May 15 at the Steinway Recital Hall in Henderson, Nevada.
Brent’s mother, Sharon Mills, was in attendance as well as his sister, Tracie Kikel,
his daughter, Adalynn Mills Hassel, his Life Love Lisa King, a former teacher
Elaine Hansen, many from the ballroom dance world, and several professional
musicians: David Ostrem (bassist), Justin Young (sax player), and Jason
“Malletman” Taylor (xylophone).

If you don’t know who Brent Thomas Mills is then I will introduce him. Brent is a
key person at ballroom dance competitions and that is where I met him when I
began to compete in pro-am dancing.
His love of music began at the age of seven. However, in high school, Brent met a
teacher, Elaine Hansen, who put on musical plays. She decided to have Seven
Brides for Seven Brothers and Brent was in this play. This led to having dance
and drama lessons that became a part of the students lives. Eventually this led to
music which became a major part of Brent’s life. An afterschool ballroom dance
team was formed where they met once a week. This got larger and students from
other schools joined and then they got a team coach. Currently, this is at a state
level where there are team match competitions. Brent discovered there are many
health benefits, so he stuck with it. He enrolled in Berklee College of music in
Boston where he began his love with the piano. To finish his education, he
enrolled at Brigham Young University in Utah eventually being hired to play for
their ballet and modern dance classes. Brent plays on standard and electronic
pianos. He composes by adding his own touch of rhythm to existing
compositions. Currently he sets timed music pieces to ballroom dance
competitions throughout the United States as well as foreign countries and has
been doing this for almost 30 years. He works 45 to 60 events each year. Brent’s
app can be downloaded at http://musicmills.net/ and can be found thru his name
Brent Thomas Mills in iTunes, amazon music, and Spotify. He also has a Youtube
Big surprise: At the conclusion of the concert, Marilyn Fordney, Director of the
Fordney Foundation presented Brent Thomas Mills with a gold record and the
inscription read:
Special Recognition From The Fordney Foundation For your dedication and
creativity bringing decades of music to Ballroom Dancers Throughout the United
States and Foreign Countries.
